Best Point Web Design

If you’re new here, Best Point Web Design is a unique business made of a team of high school and college students and a couple ‘mentors.’ I started at Best Point as a going-to-be Junior in high school in 2019, and now I’m finishing my third summer before I head back to Benedictine College to be a sophomore. From my initial Meet and Greet with the team, I loved the atmosphere, and I knew this opportunity was rare but incredible. Over the last three years I’ve been able to be in many positions within Best Point; I started with simple web design, then I added contacting clients and heading meetings, soon after I got to add ‘Web Design Extraordinaire’ to my email signature, I got to be in on the recruiting interviews and decision-making, and now, I’m a college mentor and project lead for the high school students. Starting out, I didn’t think I would ever have enough confidence to lead meetings and be a key decision-maker for the future of Best Point, but it all came naturally with the flow of the Best Point model.

Where Am I Going With This?

Well. Great question. Being with a student-led business taught me so many skills like just simple meeting mannerisms and how to ask the right questions. Added bonus – I now can say in casual conversation that I can make websites so that’s pretty cool. It also made me realize that students are capable of being successful, resourceful, and more than just young adults with crazy ideas. Cut to my college visit at Benedictine College in January of my Senior year of high school, I met with one of the Raven Dance Team members to talk about being on the team and all the details about the team. She told me the regular practice schedules, but then she said something that caught me by surprise, something along the lines of, “We also have a dance studio where the dance team members teach dancers and a couple of the members manage!” WHAT? A student-led business? At the college I want to go to? Absolute yes. So I left the college visit feeling pretty great because 1. I love to teach dance (I assisted and taught dance classes for the local studio for 6 years) and 2. I LITERALLY already work at a student-run business. Audition time came, I made the team, and summer came.

Raven School of Dance

I was now in my Freshman year of college, classes started, I had settled into the dance team, and was assigned a couple dance classes to teach at our dance studio, Raven School of Dance. It was the first year back to in-person classes since COVID-19, and the class sizes were smaller than usual, but that didn’t stop me from loving it. Around October, the Director of the studio and Senior dance team member, Madeline, came up to me and asked if I would want to take on the Assistant Director role the following year. Immediately yes. No hesitation. I committed to that role so fast, and I couldn’t wait to start using my Best Point business skills. One night, I was browsing their social media and found myself on their website. WOOF. It was outdated. The lightbulb switched on in my brain. I make websites. BINGO. So I talked to Madeline about Best Point redoing the site so I could work on it over Christmas break, and she agreed! Two student-run businesses helping each other out, we love to see it. This project came so easy to me because I was using skills from both sides, and I knew exactly how the site should be utilized, but I also knew about all the cool things I could integrate from other projects. It reminded me that even if an opportunity comes around, and it’s not exactly what you expect it to be, it’s probably more beneficial than you can even imagine. This was exactly what this was.

How It’s Going Now

I’m just about to start my Sophomore year of college after a summer of web designing and mentoring with Best Point and as the Assistant Director of Raven School of Dance. The new Registration Form for fall dance classes is live on the website, and I wouldn’t have been able to create it without my Best Point skills. Check out the site at ravenschoolofdance.com
